ELK GROVE, Calif. -- An Elk Grove man was arrested after his 10-year-old child brought a loaded handgun to Charles Mack Elementary School, a representative of Elk Grove Unified School District said Tuesday. Nobody was injured.

The father, Danny Thung, was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on suspicion of leaving a firearm accessible to someone underage and child endangerment, said Liz Graswich, spokeswoman for the district.

Thung faces three misdemeanor charges. His bail was set at $1,000.

Graswich said students reported that the student, a 10-year-old fourth-grader, brought ammunition and the weapon to the campus.

School officials questioned the student about the bullets and he confessed to both the bullets and that he had hidden a loaded handgun on campus by the playground, Graswich added.

Sgt. Tim Curran from the sheriff's department said the boy's parents were notified about the handgun, and Thung showed up at the school. Deputies questioned Thung, returned to the family's home and were allowed to search the residence.

Additional firearms were recovered at the house, and authorities determined they were being stored in an unsafe manner.

The student told administrators that he got the gun and bullets from his father's safe at home.

Graswich said the motive of the student was unknown, adding that he will be disciplined.

Another boy is also facing disciplinary action for carrying the bullets the boy gave him, but it's unknown what that will be, Graswich said.

A notice was sent to parents Tuesday afternoon.

dude, i know for a fact that bad teenagers from bad schools bring guns and drugs but, a fourth grader??? maybe he just wanted to show off and his friends would believe that he had a gun.
